Types Of Hemorrhoids – So What Are They Exactly?

There isn’t really an exact definition of the word hemorrhoids but when we talk about different types of hemorrhoids they can be described as clumps or blobs of tissue. These are masses that have formed either as an internal type of hemorrhoids or an external type of hemorrhoids.
These clumps of tissue have formed either high up in the anal canal or lower down in this same canal and around the anus area.
They are held onto the anal canal wall by lots of elastic fibres and also contain a lot of blood vessels within each clump. The last four centimetres where our stool is passed through and out of our system is what we call the anal canal.
People generally seem to think that these types of hemorrhoids are an abnormal condition but truth be known these types of hemorrhoids are present in everyone.
These hemorrhoids only become a problem when the cushions of tissue get enlarged and that’s when certain types of hemorrhoids really can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. So do these types of hemorrhoids cause people a lot of pain?
Well again although everyone naturally has these types of hemorrhoids inside there system this condition only really affects about 4% or 5% of the overall population.
It’s also a condition that is equally present in both men and women but doesn’t generally occur before the age of around 45.
What Is The Anatomy Of These Types Of Hemorrhoids?
Our anal canal has lots of arteries which supply blood to it. These arteries run all the way from the rectum right through the anal canal and create a busy network that are always communicating with each other throughout this area of our body.
These types of hemorrhoids themselves due to all these rich arteries always have a constant supply of arterial blood.
When hemorrhoids bleed they release a bright red coloured blood because its arterial blood as opposed to venous blood which is dark red in colour. And because these types of hemorrhoids are so full of these arteries when they bleed it can be quite severe.
The hemorrhoidal vessels have blood vessels that supply there blood which is also passed through the supporting tissue of these types of hemorrhoids.
The anal canal has anal veins and there job is to drain the blood away. This is done in two different directions one goes down underneath the skin that surrounds the anus and the other drains upwards into the rectum area. What defines anal skin and rectum is a line within the anal canal called the dentate.
So How Do These Types Of Hemorrhoids Form?
There are two distinct types of hemorrhoids, ones that form in the upper area of the anal canal which are called internal hemorrhoids and ones that form lower down or around the anus which are referred to as external hemorrhoids.
The definition of an internal and external types of hemorrhoids is all based on where the hemorrhoid formed in relation to the dentate line (above is internal and below is external). As we have already described these masses in the upper anal canal (internal hemorrhoids) are made up of supporting tissue and lots of blood vessels.
There are normally only three types of hemorrhoids masses – left lateral, right anterior and right posterior. When the vessels of the anal cushions really swell up this makes the supporting tissue also increase in size.
This mass of bulging protruding tissue within the anal canal is what we call hemorrhoids and can become a real problem. This is not the same for external types of hemorrhoids and it’s not really known how these occur.
Although it’s not one hundred per cent clear why or exactly how we develop hemorrhoids it’s a common condition (also see hemorrhoids during pregnancy) that is suffered by many thousands of people all over the world.
Because so many people do suffer from this issue there is a real need for a better understanding of hemorrhoids themselves and what we can do to not only treat but help to prevent them occurring in the first place.
Its becomes apparent that certain life style habits within the western world have possibly created the perfect condition for these types of conditions to thrive due to our poor diet. It is just as important then when looking at the causes of different types of hemorrhoids we should also look at the influence of food for the cause of this condition. Fast food in our society has in my opinion got a lot to answer for when it comes to our health.
Now don’t get me wrong I too love a good hamburger like most people but we have to realise that this type of food should only be consumed as a minority food source rather than a majority source when it comes to our overall diet.
This adjustment in most peoples eating habits would have a major impact on their health particularly when you are looking at things like hemorrhoids.
It’s a lot easier in my opinion to try and change your habits to prevent an illness than to try and treat the illness whilst enabling it to thrive at the same time by eating the wrong types of food. You don’t have to completely cut out everything that’s considered bad but just be sensible and have everything in moderation.
Believe me if everyone applied this simple step towards eating healthier food they would not have to suffer from many many illnesses and would lead a lot happier and healthier long lives.
I have included this information about the types of hemorrhoids (also see cause of hemorrhoids) to give people a better understanding of this condition as I feel this is very important information that will allow people to find a better treatment solution.
If you truly understand what causes a condition then it is a lot easier to treat it and eliminate the root causes preventing it from ever being a problem again. Its a sad reality but many of todays common illnesses really can be avoided and people shouldnt be suffering from them at all.
