Cause of Hemorrhoids – Do We Really Know Why They Appear?

In today’s modern world where we are able to diagnose thousands of conditions and treat them effectively we still don’t fully understand what the cause of hemorrrhoids really is. We may still not know the cause of hemorrhoids but we certainly know the different types there are and where they occur. It’s always good to have a better insight into any condition and there are theories regarding the cause of hemorrhoids that we can take a look at now.
One theory for the cause of hemorrhoids is possibly due to family history of weakened veins. Does your family have a history of suffering from hemorrhoids. If the answer is yes to that question then this could play a part in future generations suffering from the same condition. If your great uncle way back during his early forties had a really bad case of hemorrhoids then chances are that this weakness within the veins gets passed down through generations to you and can be the trigger for these future family members also developing hemorrhoids.
It’s surely not the only cause of hemorrhoids but could be a large contributing factor and should be looked at when studying the causes of this illness hence why I have included it within this information. It must also be said that just because one other family member may have suffered from hemorrhoids in the past does not mean that you will defiantly get it too.
One other thing that can play a huge part in whether people are more likely to develop hemorrhoids is there life style particularly when it comes to their diet. This has been mentioned before but an unhealthy unbalanced diet can often result in the cause of hemorrhoids. I can’t stress enough just how important a balanced diet is regarding hemorrhoids and how a lot of pain and suffering could be avoided if only people consumed a better diet.
Another Cause Of Hemorrhoids
There are a couple of other theories for the cause of hemorrhoids and they are fairly similar but never the less may both cause hemorrhoids. For anyone who has suffered with constipation for any length of time they may not realise that the constant straining when they go to the toilet can be a possible cause of hemorrhoids. Also if your diet is lacking in fibre and a decent intake of water both these factors can result in someone developing hemorrhoids.
You see a proper diet with the right amount of fibre creates a softer stool sample which is able to be passed through our bodies a lot easier than a hard compacted stool sample. The action of straining when trying to pass a stool sample increases the pressure around the anus and rectum and pushes on the veins in those areas.
Think of it like this, swollen legs can lead to getting varicose veins and it’s the same situation regarding the extra pressure that expands the veins in the anus and rectum which can then be the cause of hemorrhoids. For internal hemorrhoids these may form in fissures resulting from really hard stools which then scrape down the walls of the rectum.
The proof of the diet theory can be clearly seen by the number of people in the western world who suffer from hemorrhoids which far outweighs the number of people in less developed countries like Africa. The western diet has a lot less fibre in it than it should have were as the African diet contains a much higher level of fibre and foods that encourage regular bowel movements. Fast foods particularly have been a big factor in the increase number of hemorrhoid cases.
Simple Things May Help With The Cause Of Hemorrhoids
It may seem a bit basic but your activities may also being contributing to the cause of hemorrhoids. The modern toilet has almost become a comfy seat and many people sit on their thrones for way to long. This activity can lead to straining behaviour which in turn puts pressure on the anal veins and can be the cause of hemorrhoids.
It’s unfortunate that in today’s modern world were travelling long distances has become a normal activity that this could be the cause of all sorts of problems regarding our health. Long periods of sitting around like flying or long car journeys can be a cause of hemorrhoids. Again remaining in the same position causes the blood in the rectum to put a lot more pressure on that area.
We as humans are certainly a lot less active than we used to be and do have many jobs were sitting all day is unavoidable. Just think of how many people sit at a desk in front of a computer all day or how many people sit behind the wheel of a vehicle without getting up and moving around very often. All of these jobs don’t allow our bodies to move around and certainly add to the increase cases of illnesses like hemorrhoids.
Although not for the same reasons but due to the same inactivity pregnant women (see hemorrhoids during pregnancy)can also suffer from hemorrhoids. Once a woman becomes pregnant she is no longer able to be quite as active as she was and is also carrying a lot more weight.
Therefore pregnancy can also be considered a cause of hemorrhoids but is usually only a temporary condition. This is because of the increase of weight and less activity whilst pregnant. The pregnancy creates pressure on the rectum and anus from the uterus and baby which again may be a cause of hemorrhoids.
As you can see there are several known theories for the cause of hemorrhoids (and also different types of hemorrhoids)most of which we can change to make it less likely we suffer from this condition. As with any illness if you are suffering from a condition but don’t know how to treat it then it’s always advisable to see your own doctor. The same applies if you need more information for the cause of hemorrhoids always consult a professional.
